I took part in the quadcopter challenge with my team, where we designed a drone for the “local heroes” theme and chose search and rescue, naming our model Search 4 Life. We created a PowerPoint to present our idea and made it through the qualification round. At the Regionals, we built our quadcopter from a laser‑cut template and electronic components, then moved into a crucial modification phase. As a team, we added longer arms for safety, longer cushioned legs to protect the battery during landing, and extra roofs to shield exposed electronics after breaking the originals. We also assigned roles: I was first made head pilot and given a flier’s ID, then moved to head of modifications while also serving as co‑pilot. In the Regional Finals, we came first thanks to our strong design, presentation, and piloting. We then travelled to London for the Nationals, competing against 13 other schools and Cadet groups, and although we didn’t place, we still ranked in the top 14 out of around 400 schools from across the UK and Scotland.
